Robert Lawrence Stine nasceu em 8 de outubro de 1943 em Columbus, Ohio. Stine começou a escrever quando tinha 9 anos de idade. Ele escreveu histórias ou piadas sobre uma máquina de escrever e entregou-os na escola. Após o colegial, ele se tornou um estudante da Universidade de Ohio, onde se graduou com um bacharelado em educação em 1965. Stine ensinou estudos sociais depois da faculdade. Ele casou-se com Jane, em 22 de junho de 1969. Seu filho, Daniel Matt Stine, nasceu em 07 de junho de 1980.
Ninguém morre em Goosebumps e os romances são voltados à classe-escolar. Mas, para os adolescentes, as cabeças rolar na Rua do Medo. A série de terror Goosebumps, publicado pela Scholastic para 7-12 anos de idade, consumiu leitores desde 1989.
RL Stine já vendeu mais de 90 milhões de livros e ainda é desconhecido para leitores adultos. Em 1995, ele publicou seu livro primeiro adulto - uma história de horror chamado de supersticioso. Mesmo que o romance não foi bem, Stine comandou 1 milhão para os direitos tela supersticioso. Goosebumps foi produzido como uma série de TV para o início Fox TV Network em 1995. Stine prêmios incluem Prêmio das Crianças's Choice e da American Library Association Award. Ele tem escrito sob pseudônimo de Eric Affabee, Zachary Azul, jovial e Bob Stine. Publicou uma autobiografia, ela veio de Ohio! My Life as a Writer, in 1997.
